You’re probably reading this because you love celebrating with your dog on his or her birthday. After all, pets are part of the family so why not prepare something delicious for them outside the daily menu?
Here I’ll share with you 7 easy recipe options to bake a delicious birthday cake for your canine.
Table of Contents
Is cake harmful to our dogs’ health?
The cake is not going to be a regular meal for your pooch, as it can provide a lot of calories and won’t feed him well. Rather, they are a treat that we’ll give him from time to time (personally I only do it on my dog’s birthday) and as they are special for dogs, they won’t contain any harmful food.
However, some canines might be allergic or intolerant to some foods, so if your dog cannot digest any of the foods I am going to use in these recipes, you can replace them or omit them.
Ingredients you should NOT include
Of course, and as you may already know, certain ingredients must not be fed to dogs since they are potentially harmful to their health. These recipes contain none of them, but I’m going to name them so you can avoid them.
- Chocolate: thanks to theobromine (a chocolate compound related to caffeine), chocolate can be very toxic and cause vomiting, diarrhea, hyperactivity, and can even cause your dog’s death.
- Citrus fruits: due to the citric acid and essential oils of fruits such as oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, or lemons, they can cause irritation and damage your canine’s stomach.
- Grapes: these are highly toxic to dogs and can cause kidney failure and poisoning.
- Onions and garlic: these contain a compound called N-propyl disulfide that damages red blood cells and can cause anemia.
- Nuts: the amount of fat causes weakness, tremors, muscle control difficulties, depression, pancreatitis, and vomiting, especially macadamia nuts are quite toxic to canines, but other nuts and almonds can also be harmful.
- Salt: large amounts of salt can cause kidney malfunction, increased blood pressure, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, seizures, and death.
- Seeds or fruit pits: these contain cyanide and can be very toxic to the canine.
Ingredients you CAN give to your canine
Here I’ll list the ingredients that you can include in your regular preparations, you can even add them to the recipes that I will give later on.

- Grate the carrot and mix it in the bowl or cup. Then add the remaining ingredients: 1 teaspoon of baking soda, the tablespoon of olive oil, and the teaspoon of yeast until you have a homogeneous dough.
- Next, you take the cake mold and grease it with butter, then pour the mixture into it and put it in the oven.
- After 20 minutes you can check if it is ready by introducing a knife. If it comes out wet, it means that it is not ready yet, and if it comes out dry, it means it is perfect.
- Serve your canine his birthday cake for him to enjoy.
